KUALA LUMPUR: The Gombak Main Market will be redeveloped next year with a more modern concept and expected to be completed by 2021.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the redevelopment involves a nine-storey commercial building, the main (wet) market and a Mini Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).
"The Gombak Main Market has been operating for 32 years since 1985 but business has started to decline since 15 years ago, hence the need for change to revive business.
"A total of 131 traders affected will be compensated by the project developer in the form of monthly allowance during the construction period," he said during the project's groundbreaking ceremony, here today.
A 44-storey block of Federal Territories Affordable Homes (Rumawip) known as Residensi Inspiria would be built next to the new Gombak Main Market building.

The Rumawip project which will be implemented by a private developer would offer 900 units of 815 sq ft apartment with three bedrooms and two bathrooms at RM298,000 each.
"What is good about this Rumawip project is that comes with condominium-class facilities and is at a strategic location," he added.
Some 70,292 Rumawip units hav e been build up to September, or 88% of the target of 80,000 units by 2020. — Bernama
