Najib visits flood victims in Pematang Pauh

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today visited Kampung Tanjung Putus, Permatang Pauh here.
The Prime Minister arrived at 12.05pm, accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Permatang Pauh UMNO division chief Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said.
Najib and his wife then proceeded to the evacuation centre at Surau Kampung Tanjung Putus where he spent almost half an hour chatting with 150 families and later presented them with some essential goods.
The prime minister is also scheduled to visit Masjid Nyior Sebatang in Tasek Gelugor where other flood victims are temporarily staying.
Meanwhile, Mohd Zaidi told reporters when met that the prime minister was quite satisfied with the assistance rendered by government departments and agencies.
"The prime minister is happy that the UMNO machinery and Federal Village Development and Security Committees had duly come forward to assist the affected residents.
"He also noted that there was a delay by government agencies in rendering aid but understands that it is because they have to follow certain procedures," Mohd Zaidi said.
He said food provision was sufficient except for lack of certain items such as pillows and mattresses for affected residents in Permatang Pauh.
To this end, Mohd Zaidi said the prime minister had indicated that he would contribute pillows and mattresses to the 3,000 flood victims in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency. — Bernama
