GEORGE TOWN: The number of flood victims in Penang has dropped to 6,080 comprising 1,572 families as of this morning, from 6,243 involving 1,588 families, last night.
A police flood operations room spokesman said Seberang Prai Utara district recorded the highest number, at 3,955 comprising 965 families.
"The number remains the same and some roads are still closed, among them, Jalan Lahar Yooi-Sungai Dua, Lahar Yooi-Padang Menora, Jalan Pokok Tampang and Jalan Padang Tonsun," he said here today.
In Seberang Prai Tengah, the floods temporarily displaced 1,913 people involving 546 families; in Seberang Prai Selatan, 191 people from 53 families; and in Timur Laut, 21 people from eight families.
The spokesman said the flood in Timur Laut was subsiding, enabling the affected residents to return to their homes today.

"The victims are sheltered at 41 evacuation centres, and the floods in other districts are also subsiding," he said.
Meanwhile, the weather in Seberang Prai is cloudy, and fine on the island.
Almost the whole of Penang was submerged in 0.2 to one metre of water from strong winds and heavy rain since Saturday, which also uprooted several trees.
The flood which has claimed seven lives is reported to be the worst ever experienced by the state. — Bernama
