Teochew Puppet, Opera House shows leave Duchess of Cornwall enthralled

GEORGE TOWN: History was created when Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall watched the maiden puppet show put up by the Puppet Teochew group and Opera House.
Having arrived at the museum at 1pm, she was greeted by Puppet Teochew and Opera House director Ling Goh.
The member of the British Royalty was entertained to the 10-minute show titled 'The Wood Shed' (puppet) and 'Mui Gui Ying Get Married' (opera).
Besides the Teochew Puppet and Opera show, Camilla was also introduced to the 'Wayang Kulit' show.
The 'Wayang Kulit' was performed by Machang, Kelantan's Sri Warisan Pusaka, head of musicians, Abdul Rahman Dollah, 60, and son, Ahmad Iryasad Abdul Rahman,15.
Camilla was a picture of excitement and amazement as she took in the show in all its grandeur.
Meanwhile, Ling told Bernama she was delighted and happy with the opportunity to perform in front of the British Royalty.
The Teochew Opera has been very popular in Penang for a decade and now, this opera is still featured in the community as an entertainment venue for the community.
Visitors have the opportunity to feel and experience the real opera world which was made famous several years ago.
The Opera House was built within a shophouse in a heritage zone gazetted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), under the auspices of the fifth generation Kim Giak Low Choon's family.
Teochew Puppet and Opera House is one of the 10 famous museums in Penang.
Besides that, Pusat Budaya Pusaka creative director, Pauline Fan said Camilla was very interested in the Wayang Kulit show.
"She said she was very keen in the show. She said she had never seen this show and was interested in learning more about the tools used for the show," she said. — Bernama
