KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat has allowed a special motion to discuss the Penang floods.
The motion was tabled by Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik under Standing Order 18 (1).
Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia (pix), in allowing the motion, stated that the motion has satisfied several requirements needed for discussion.
"I found that the motion is of a defining matter, involving public importance and is urgent," he said in making the ruling.
Pandikar said the motion would be brought to the Special Chamber for further discussion.
Earlier, Ng in presenting the motion, said the recent flooding was considered the worst that had ever occurred in the history of Penang.
He added the motion was also meant to express gratitude to civil servants from various departments and agencies that had assisted in helping the victims.
The motion would also urge the government to prepare a comprehensive plan in facing the challenges of global climate change.
"Such a plan needs to be prepared to address issues for areas near the sea and coastal areas," he added.
