KLIYD 2017 to discuss country's security-related threats, climate change

KUALA LUMPUR: Issues concerning migration, extremism, climate change, food security, cyber security, energy and water as well as inter-racial relations will be discussed at the Kuala Lumpur International Youth Discourse (KLIYD) 2017 on Dec 3.
KLIYD 2017 chairman Senator Khairul Azwan Harun said the dialogue, themed Embracing Total Security: Why It Matters, to be held at the Putra World Trade Centre, would feature both local and foreign experts as panel members, as well as youth leaders to voice their ideas to ensure continuous regional security.
"The total security concept has gaining attention in various discussions and dialogues in recent times as it gives a new narrative of security.
"Not only we need to focus on traditional threats, but also on non-traditional threats such as cyber security, food security and so on," he told reporters after the launch of KLIYD 2017 by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak at here today.
Khairul Azwan said KLIYD 2017, which entered its second year, provided a platform for dialogue between youths with the country's leaders with 3,000 participants in attendance and findings from the dialogue would then be submitted to the government to be viewed as ideas for the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) agenda.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Andul Razak is scheduled to officiate the programme, while Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir are expected to deliver speeches. — Bernama
