Police nab youth who runs down woman

KLANG: The police detained a man in Bandar Bukit Tinggi here today on suspicion of ploughing into a woman with a car when making his getaway from a brawl in Taman Sri Andalas here, on Sunday.
Klang Selatan District Police chief, ACP Shamsul Amar Ramli said the suspect, in his 20s, was detained by the roadside at 1.30 pm and a car which was believed to have been used in the incident was also seized.
In the incident at about 9.45 pm, the suspect was alleged to have hit the woman who was a resident in the housing estate.
During the incident, the woman had emerged from her house to see a commotion, which arose after the suspect's friend drove into a car belonging to another resident, which was parked by the side of the road.
"The woman was injured in the waist and several other parts of the body when she was rammed by the car driven by the suspect in his bid to escape," he told reporters here today.
Commenting further, Shamsul Akmar said police had identified the identities of nine more suspects who were involved in the brawl.

He said the identities of all the suspects who ran away after the incident were determined via closed-circuit television recordings in the area and video recordings which went viral on social sites.
The fight was triggered at 9.45 pm when a Perodua Myvi of a couple skidded and hit a Perodua Kenari in the housing estate.
Subsequently, several residents emerged from their homes to see the accident, and, fearing for their safety, the couple telephoned their friends.
After some time, 15 people, friends of the couple, turned up and a quarrel ensued between the group and several residents.
According to Shamsul Akmar, several residents sustained injuries on several parts of their bodies including head, hand and waist.
During the incident, a 49-year-old resident, who was also a policeman, had unleashed a shot in the air in a bid to stop the fighting. — Bernama
