Chong Wei hopes his biopic will inspire others

KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei hopes that his biographical film, 'Rise Of Legend' directed by Teng Bee, will not only inspire Malaysians but also badminton fans around the world.
"I did not expect my life as a badminton player to be made a movie. I hope the film will encourage others to take up badminton and to not easily give up," he told a press conference, here today.
Chong Wei was with the film's production crew during the audition of more than 2,000 people to find the right person to act his part.
The film, which was three years in the making, has Tosh Chan in the role of Chong Wei while Jake Eng acted a young Chong Wei.
Chong Wei said the producers plan to screen the film in Singapore, China, Taiwan and Japan. The film that took 50 days to be completed would be shown in cinemas next year.

The other actors include Datuk Rosyam Nor (coach Datuk Misbun Sidek), Ashley (Datin Wong Mew Choo), Mark Lee (Chong Wei's father, Lee Ah Chai) and Yeo Yann Yann (Chong Wei's mother, Khor Kim Chooi).
Meanwhile, Rosyam said the film not only tells the life story of Chong Wei but also shows the close relationship between Chong Wei and Misbun, which is like father and son.
"I agreed to play the Misbun character because this movie is not fiction but reality. I believe this film can be a source of reference," he added. — Bernama
