Nine lorry drivers, attendants detained for methamphetamine

BAGAN SERAI: Five lorry drivers and four lorry attendants were among 25 individuals detained by police in an integrated operation at Gunung Semangggol Rest and Service southbound, last night after testing positive for methamphetamine.
Kerian District Police chief Supt Omar Bakhtiar Yaakob said the operation which began at 10pm and ended at 12.30am involved the police, Road Transport Department, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), Environment Department, PLUS Berhad, National Anti-Drugs Agency and Puspakom.
He said three Indonesians, three Myanmar nationals, two Vietnamese and one Egyptian were also detained.
"They had either overstayed or entered the country illegally," he told reporters, adding, 286 traffic summonses were also issued.
He said integrated operations would be conducted from time to time to detect drug consumption among commercial vehicle drivers, traffic offenders and undocumented foreigners. — AFP
