Warehouse fire destroys 1,000 motorcycles

BUKIT MERTAJAM: One thousand motorcycles were destroyed in a fire at a warehouse in Taman Perusahaan Bukit Tengah in the early hours of the morning.
In the 3am incident at the warehouse located at Lorong IKS Juru 6, almost all the motorcycles were destroyed in the blaze, with losses estimated at more than RM5 million.
A spokesman from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department said a distress call was received at 3.42am, and a team of firefighters arrived at the location at 4.02am.
Upon arrival, the team found that the blaze had completely destroyed the premise, but the firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to an office located next to the warehouse.

"We managed to control the fire at 4.17am and put the blaze out by 4.45am," he told reporters today.
Voluntary Fire and Rescue teams from Juru, Sungai Puyu, Valdo, Permatang Tinggi and Padang Lalang also rushed to the scene to assist in putting out the blaze.
He said there were no human casualties, and the department was still investigating the cause of the fire.
