IGP: Police will provide more security for Tun M if needed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will provide more security if serious threats are posed against former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
He was commenting on the recent issue, which Mahathir claimed that his bodyguard service by the Special Action Unit (UTK) were withdrawn by the government.
Fuzi clarified Mahathir was not stripped of his bodyguards completely.
"A UTK officer is still with him, there is only scaling down of security.
"It all depends on the threat, if there is a serious threat against him, then we will give the appropriate security needed.
'We have female UTK personnel guarding his wife (Tun Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali) and we are also watching his house too. There have been various parties making accusations and the issue itself has already been explained the past few days in the newspaper," he said.
The Prime Minister's Department said in a statement on Thursday that all former prime ministers are provided with the same privileges and that Dr Mahathir is treated no differently.
The statement also said that the Government had not revoked any facility to any former prime minister, including Dr Mahathir.
In a Facebook post on Nov 1, Mahathir claimed that the police had withdrawn the personal bodyguard service provided for his protection by the UTK.
This came a year after Putrajaya ended the contracts of his cook and office assistant.
