BELURAN: A delegation comprising United States Federal Court judges, officers from New York Police Department and officials from US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur visited Kampung Matangal in Paitan here to observe how Sabah conducted its Mobile Court.
Judicial commissioner Datuk Martin Idang said the delegation was in the state on the invitation of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, he said the mobile court during the two-day programme at Kampung Matangal which ended yesterday received 180 applications for Late Registration of Birth Certificate from the villagers.
He said the programme focused on the interior areas because many rural parents were still unaware of the necessity to register their children's birth. The magistrate would hear each case before approving it for further action by the National Registration Department.
Martin said the mobile court was introduced in 2007 on the initiative of the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Richard Malanjum. — Bernama
