PETALING JAYA: A surgery on the right shoulder of former Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pix) was successfully carried out at at Hospital Kuala Lumpur today.
"The operation was a success, and nothing out of the ordinary occurred according to HKL. He regained consciousness at 3.30pm," PKR director of communications Fahmi Fadzil told theSun, adding Anwar will be warded for two weeks.
Earlier, Anwar's daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar had explained that her dad will undergo an arthroscopy which started at 9am.
An arthroscopy is an invasive surgical procedure on a joint to examine and sometimes treat damage, performed using an arthroscope.
The three-hour surgery involves an instrument through which the interior of a joint may be inspected or operated on.
"A camera, the size of a pencil will be inserted into his shoulder's joint through a small incision. The camera will act as an eye for the surgeon to look through (the shoulder's) cavity, and an image will be displayed on a monitor's screen.
"Following this, the cause of the injury will be detected before a minor procedure such as the cleaning or smoothing on the bone's surface or tissue's fragments (lavage and debridement) will be performed," said Nurul Izzah, in a Facebook post.
