SUNGAI PETANI: A total of 200 families from Komuniti 1Malaysia hit by floods today received aid in the form of cash and foodstuff via the "Jalinan Kasih" post-flood programme.
Kedah Information Department director Aziman Hasan said the aid was given to flood victims in the districts of Kuala Muda, Pendang and Kulim to help reduce their burden.
"Every time there is a flood, we will go down to the affected areas to help out. This shows that the government is sensitive to the needs of flood victims," he told reporters after handing over donation to 19 flood victims from Kampung Tikam Batu Hujung and Kampung Pokok Kabu in Tikam Batu, near here today.
One of the aid recipients, Aminah Ahmad, 63, from Kampung Tikam Batu Hujung, thanked the Information Department for the aid as it would help to cover for her losses of over RM2,000 to the floods.
"Most of my belongings such as mats, wardrobe, dining table, sewing machine and clothes were destroyed on Nov 5. The water rose so rapidly that it reached knee level," she added. — Bernama
