KUALA SELANGOR: Several residents of Kampung Sungai Yu here today held a peaceful demonstration in front of the Kuala Selangor District and Land Office urging the Selangor government to call off the alleged unfair distribution of land reserved for the Indian community.
A representative of the residents, M. Purusothman, claimed that the distribution of the land reserved for the Indian community in the village was seen to be not in accordance with the set conditions and criteria.
"We had questioned the distribution of the land when we came to know that some of the people on the list of recipients were not from among the residents here. In fact, some well-to-do people also got plots of land.
"When we asked for an explanation from the District and Land Office, we were not given one. We gathered today because we want an explanation as we heard that plots had been given to residents outside Selangor, including from Perak and Penang," he said to reporters.
Another representative, P. Puvandran, expressed regret that the issue did not get serious attention from the Selangor government.
Despite previous protests on the distribution of the land, no action was taken by the state government, not even an investigation into the complaint, he said.
"We urge the relevant authorities and the state government to investigate the matter. Those eligible to receive the land are families whose household income is RM3,000 or less and do not own any land.
"However, some well-to-do families who own land were also given plots. Where is the justice?" he asked. — Bernama
