theSun relief mission hands out aid to 17 different villages, welfare homes and organisations

GEORGE TOWN: theSun flood relief mission rolled into Penang on Saturday to hand out aid to some 17 different villages, welfare homes and organisations over the weekend.
Five lorries with over RM160,000 worth of essential goods joined a convoy of four-wheel drive vehicles to distribute the aid on both the island and mainland.
The convoy was led by theSun managing editor Freddie Ng, who was accompanied by the paper's human resources manager Muhammad Radzi Ahmat Suhaimi, distribution channel senior manager Gurunatham Gopal, and 30 volunteers from theSun Media Corporation Sdn. Bhd .
In Tasek Gelugor, which was the district hardest hit, the team handed out food packets and household electrical appliances to some 100 schoolchildren of SK Lahar Yooi.
A group of 10 poor families from Sungai Dua were also given aid before the convoy went to Kampung Sungai Dua, MK11 Sungai Dua, Taman Desa Murni, Jalan Kilang Lama and Kampung Merbau Kudong and then to Kampung Chegar and Kampung Tok Jawa in Padang Menora in Seberang Prai Utara.
Later, the convoy also handed over aid to 222 households in Kampung Permata in Kepala Batas.
On the island, the convoy visited 112 families in Jalan Perak, and residents in Taman Free School, including the area's surau committee members, the Light House half-way house in Penang Road and the newly opened Agape Welfare Home in Taman Lumba Kuda.
theSun also handed out aid to several police personnel from the Northeast district and firemen at the Bayan Baru Fire Station, whose homes were also inundated.
Today, the team dropped of a load of essential items at the St Anne's Church in Bukit Mertajam for distribution to the needy in Seberang Prai Tengah.
