GEORGE TOWN: Mega flood mitigation projects and allocation for such projects is the responsibility of the federal government said a Penang exco member.
State Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee Chairman Chow Kon Yeow, said following the massive floods that ravaged Penang last week, the state government had once again appealed to the federal government to resolve the problem.
A total of 13 projects involving an allocation of RM1 billion had been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak during his visit to the flood affected areas in the state last Tuesday, said Chow when winding up his speech for the 2018 Penang Budget at the State Assembly, here today.
Chow said the allocation requested was for flood mitigation projects in Teluk Kumbar; Teluk Bahang; Pondok Upeh; Sungai Junjung; Parit 4; Parit Raja Uda; Sungai Kecil; Perai Industrial Park, Sungai Perai; Lembangan Sungai Juru; Lembangan Sungai Jawi; Bayan Lepas; and Lembangan Sungai Pinang.
"The proposed projects will have a major impact in managing floods in the state. I therefore, sincerely hope the federal government will consider our appeal and give priority when approving such projects," he said. — Bernama
