Flash floods force evacuation of 23 people in Batu Pahat

JOHOR BARU: Heavy rain for over two hours since 2am today caused flash floods in Batu Pahat, forcing 23 people from 10 families to be evacuated to a relief centre.
Batu Pahat District Civil Defence Force officer Lt Mohd Faezie Abdul Aziz said the affected area was Lorong Budin at KM31.5 of Jalan Batu Pahat, Ayer Hitam.

"Heavy rain for over two hours caused the nearby drainage system to overflow, causing floods in the housing area. The floodwaters rose about a foot above the road level," he said when contacted from here.
The evacuees were being housed at the hall of the Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti centre in Lorong Telekom, Batu Pahat, he said.
He said it was still raining and the Civil Defence Force would keep a close watch on the water levels of rivers and drains. — Bernama
