BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police rescued three Indonesian women from a human trafficking syndicate with the arrest of four suspects in Bukit Mertajam.
The women were confined to a factory at Jalan Machang Bubok 1, in Taman Machang Bubok here and they were believed to have been exploited for flesh trade.
Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said that police found all the victims, aged 21 and 25-years old, living in fear.
They were hiding in a lavatory at the second floor of the factory.
According to Nik Ros Azhan, the police swung into action at 11.20am after receiving a tip off on Monday.
Nik Ros Azhan said a team, which was led by Inspector Ahmad Hasbi Mohd Fauzi and Inspector Mohd Sobirin Yatim raided the factory.
"We found the factory's main grilled gate locked. We called the factory operator to open the gate." he said.
A 32-year-old local woman, who is the factory's supervisor came out and opened the access to the factory.
The team later went to the second floor to check and found the victims hiding.
"One of the victims scribbled the words 'Ibu, Tolong saya, Saya mahu lari', when the police were asking them to show their passports."
"The police then arrested the four suspects who were the two supervisors, the mother of the factory owners and also the agent, who is supplying foreign workers to the factory, for investigation."
The owners were in China.
"All the suspects are believed to be involved in human trafficking," he told reporters here.
Nik Ros Azhan said those detained were aged between 22 and 66-years old.
The police will investigate the case under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007.
