KLANG: A woman allegedly staged her own kidnapping fearing her husband will find out about her affair with another man, said to be the "kidnapper".
The drama unfolded when her husband, 55, could not locate his wife when he went to fetch her from her workplace on Friday.
North Klang district police chief ACP Mazelan Paijan said the husband normally drops the 40-year-old woman, who is a cleaner in a school, around 6.30am everyday.
"The man will then fetch her back from the school around 4.30pm. That's the routine. However on Friday, she went missing as the husband couldn't locate her when he went to the school to fetch her," he said in a statement today.
He said a police report was lodged subsequently following the incident.
"The following day, on Saturday at about 8.30am, the man received a phone call from his wife's handphone. The caller demanded RM5,000 ransom to secure her 'release'," added Mazelan.
North Klang district police serious crime investigation (D9) division immediately initiated a probe and nabbed a woman on Monday, believed to be involved with the alleged kidnapping.
Following the arrest, police rescued the victim at 11.30am on the same day in front of a mamak restaurant along Jalan Meru, here.
"The victim was in a safe condition without any injuries," he said, adding that police then detained the main suspect, in his late 30's.
Mazelan further revealed that investigators seized a handphone from the suspect.
"The alleged kidnap victim also claimed that she had no choice but had to stage her kidnapping fearing that her husband would beat her for her affair with the main suspect," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and abduction.
