7-ELEVEN Malaysia (7-Eleven) continues to “walk the talk” as in its slogan, “Always There For You”. Its latest CSR project with NGOHub Asia saw a team of volunteers from 7-Eleven and NGOHub Asia spend time with children of Destiny Welfare Centre (Pertubuhan Pusat Kebajikan Destiny) in Klang, teaching them mathematics and the alphabets, along with a game of musical chairs.
The delightful day concluded with a scrumptious meal prepared by the volunteers and a resident cook, followed by the distribution of goodie bags to the children.
DATE WITH DESTINY
Destiny Welfare Centre is a nonprofit organisation that helps the underprivileged community. “We currently have 67 children with us,” said Irene J Dawson who has dedicated her time in helping the underprivileged community live more meaningful lives. The centre, she says, fully began operations in December last year. It provides day care and education, catered to children of refugees in Malaysia and those from low-income families.
“We have expansion plans; and it would aid us significantly to have more teachers on board to help facilitate classes for the children. With more support, we can focus on raising funds towards renting more cabins and opening up more opportunities to learn sewing, computer and English language, for the underprivileged,” Dawson informed. “I believe that people can go further if we provide them with the right encouragement and motivation. All they need is support,” added Dawson.
CARE TO SHARE
7-Eleven Malaysia general manager of marketing Ronan Lee was happy to share about the company’s involvement in the project.
“We are delighted to have fulfilled our part here for the community. We have also given the children a special bag of treats that they can look forward to when they go home. We believe that one act of kindness that can be done is to spread positivity among these children; it can help them lead happier lives in spite of their circumstances.
“Moreover, knowing the positive impact we make encourages us to continue our endeavours of being ‘Always There For You’,” Lee said.
