KUCHING: Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar today dismissed a private motion moved by PKR See Chee How.
The Pending assemblyman moved the motion to discuss a definite and urgent matter of public importance with regards to the safety of the Bengoh Dam.
See said that on Nov 12 it was reported in the print media that the Bengoh Dam situated at the upper reaches of Left Sarawak River had shown signs of water seepages.
He said on Nov 13 the state Utility Minister Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom had also issued a statement, quoting the report by the dam's design consultant expert and contractor, to assure that the Bengoh Dam is technically and structurally sound and stable.
He claimed the minister had only consulted and was briefed by the contractor and consultant whose reports and information were misleading, contradictory, self-serving at best and not contemporaneous.
Asfia, in dismissing the motion, said the minister in-charge had been briefed by the consultant and engineers of the project and had assured him that the dam was structurally safe and structural strong. — Bernama
