Flying high with Rokki

GONE are the days where you would sometimes have to endure a staring match with the back of the seat in front of you onboard a flight.
AirAsia has turned the flying experience for its passengers from drab to fab with two new additions – the video streaming network tonton, and news content from Malaysia's first free paper theSun – to Rokki, its in-flight WiFi service provider.
Tonton's inclusion on Rokki provides passengers who fly with AirAsia exclusive access to its library of classic movies, as well as the best of local and international TV series that promise to keep both adults and children entertained until they touch down at their holiday destination.
The Malaysian streaming giant and theSun news content made their maiden appearance onboard an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu on Nov 7.
Onboard the flight were tonton's ambassadors Ayda Jebat and Redza Rosli, together with 8TV's Let's Cycle hosts Baki Zainal and Rickman Chia.
Passengers got to meet with these celebrities while being served by the low-cost carrier's bubbly cabin crew.
In a later press conference at the Tune Hotel lobby in Kota Kinabalu, tonton general manager Loh Ben Jern said: "Partnering with such a well-established WiFi provider onboard Malaysia's most popular low-budget airline allows tonton to go bigger and higher with passengers streaming their favourite programmes from 10,000 feet up in the air through Rokki, directly on their mobile devices.
"Tonton could not be more excited about being at the forefront of an evolution of in-flight viewing experience."
Also present onboard was AirAsia Ancillary group head Choudhury Hassan Peter, who talked about the airline's aim to ensure its passengers have an enjoyable flying experience.
"Now guests onboard our Rokki flights can enjoy free access to Rokki entertainment and the e-commerce platform, featuring movies, music, articles, games, as well as, shopping," said Peter.
Meanwhile, passengers can now stay connected to the outside world while flying high up in the sky with the addition to Rokki of a news section.
The articles provided by theSun will ensure passengers don't miss out on breaking news, in addition to stories on business, entertainment, lifestyle, and technology.
"Our first news partner is theSun, where we're getting good local news," added Peter.
"And as soon as we get the latest stories, we'll update it on a regular basis throughout the day, so when guests are flying, they can get the latest news updates, keeping our passengers as informed as possible."
