Singapore train service between Joo Koon and Tuas link stations suspended

SINGAPORE: Train service between Joo Koon and Tuas Link stations of the East-West Line is suspended, advised SMRT Corporation, the operator of the republic's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) service.
In updating the train service via its Twitter this morning, SMRT said that free regular and bridging bus services are available between the stations all day.
In the early morning rush hour Wednesday, an SMRT train knocked into a stationary train at the Joo Koon station, on the west-bound direction towards the Tuas Link station.
Latest update by Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that 27 passengers and two SMRT staff were injured.
There are five stops to the Tuas Link station from the Joo Koon station.

The East-West Line, popularly referred to as the Green line, has 35 stations starting from the Tuas Link station to Changi Airport.
Preliminary findings by the LTA showed that the first train departed Ulu Pandan Depot with the software protection feature, but the feature was inadvertently removed when the first train passed by a faulty signalling circuit.
The train then arrived at Joo Koon station without the feature, which resulted in the first train giving off a train profile on the new signalling system of a three-car train, instead of a six-car train.
As a result, the second train detected the first train as a three-car train and misjudged the distance between the two trains, causing the collision, said the Authority.
A total of 517 passengers were on the train travelling at 16km/hour when it collided with a stationary train. — Bernama
