TASEK GELUGOR: A Barisan Nasional politician has claimed that the Opposition-led state government has proven to be ineffective during a crisis.
Senator and state Wanita chief Datuk Norliza Abd Rahim said the recent floods and the handling of the crisis by the state government, should serve as a wake-up call to the people of Penang.
She said during the flood that hit Penang on Nov 4, the BN machinery had put aside political differences to help those affected by the floods.
"BN prioritises people first regardless of political sentiment, I hope the people of Penang can give the opportunity to BN to help again," she said during a press conference after the Skuad Sayang Wanita Umno Flood Aid Mission at the Community Development Department (Kemas) here today.
Norliza also urged the state government to review the recurring flood problem in the state, and called for a revised standard operating procedure in handling the crisis.
Earlier, Norliza accompanied Umno supreme council member Datuk Rosni Sohar in handing out flood aid to affected residents in Tasek Gelugor.
About 350 flood victims received the essential items during the ceremony.
Skuad Sayang Wanita Umno are currently on a mission to deliver aid to flood affected areas in Penang, especially in Nibong Tebal, Permatang Pauh, Jelutong, Bukit Mertajam and Balik Pulau.
