KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today explained why the Registrar of Societies had yet to approve the registration of the opposition pact Pakatan Harapan.
Firstly, he said, the RoS had yet to receive the latest report and list of Central Executive Committee members of the DAP, one of the component parties of the pact, following the re-election on Nov 12.
Secondly, he added, another component, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), had failed to hold its annual general assembly since it was registered and the party's application for amendments to its constitution had yet to be approved.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, spoke to reporters after chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Eradication of Drugs at Parliament House here.
Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also PPBM chairman, today met Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim to seek clarification over the status of the Pakatan Harapan application for registration.
Also with him were PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin; Pakatan Harapan president and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; DAP chairman Tan Kok Wai; Pakatan Harapan head of secretariat Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu. Besides Alwi, RoS officials and the legal advisor attended the meeting.
Ahmad Zahid said Dr Mahathir had asked RoS to inform Pakatan Harapan if there were any irregularities in the Pakatan Harapan application which they could rectify.
Alwi, who was present at Ahmad Zahid's press conference, said Pakatan Harapan had to comply with the registration procedures and its constitution.
"These two matters had yet to be resolved by DAP and PPBM for us to take further action in accordance with the registration process," he said.
Recently, RoS issued a warning of de-registration to PPBM for what it cited as three offences, that is not holding its annual general assembly, setting up a youth wing known as Armada contrary to its constitution and and deferring its annual general assembly. — Bernama
