KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) targets 1,000 online rural entrepreneurs by 2018 via the DesaMall@Online programme, the Dewan Rakyat sitting was told today.
Its deputy minister Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said 300 entrepreneurs had registered and began marketing their products on the 11street e-commerce platform involving 150 products.
"DesaMall@Online which started on May 11, aims at expanding their business through online transactions and KKLW has entered into strategic partnership with Celcom, 11street and Pos Malaysia as a strategy to produce more digital entrepreneurs in the rural areas," he said.
He was replying to a question from Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris (BN-Jerantut) who wished to know the ministry's target to ensure the rural community succeeded in the digital economy and the types of assistance being extended to them.
The ministry also provided assistance, in terms of courses and financial aid, through the Rural Economy Finance Scheme (SPED) with loans of between RM20,000 and RM500,000 for entrepreneurs to expand their businesses. – Bernama
