IPOH: A total of 101 tahfiz schools are operating in the state, including those that are registered, in the process of obtaining certification, and those that are not registered.
Datuk Mohd Nizar Zakaria (BN-Belanja) said to ensure the safety of these institutions, the state through the Religious and Fire and Rescue Departments, had conducted checks on the premises.
In his reply to Abdul Yunus Jamahri (PH-Kuala Kurau), Mohd Nizar said the Fire and Rescue Department had compiled reports on the premises which had been submitted to the Religious Department for further action.
"The state government has not taken any action against any pusat tahfiz or pondoks which have not achieved the safety standards as required.
"However we are still giving them time, to ensure they implement all safety regulations when circulars are sent out.
"The authorities will instruct the schools to cease operations if they fail to follow the directives and circulars," he told the state legislative assembly today.
To a supplementary question by Datuk Siti Salmah Mat Jusak (BN- Lubuk Merbau) on the lengthy registration process, he said the schools have to fulfill all the requirements, including precautionary measures, before their application can be approved by the state Religious Department.
