Three hours to extricate body of driver after lorry plunges into ravine

HULU TERENGGANU: Fire and rescue services personnel spent more than three hours to recover the body of a lorry driver after his lorry plunged into a ravine along the Tasik Kenyir-Jalan Aring stretch here on Monday.
In the 3pm incident, the victim, identified as B. Jeganathan, 38, from Shah Alam was driving towards Pengkalan Gawi from Aring when he lost control of the vehicle.
It rammed into the road divider before plummeting into the 15-metre- deep ravine.
District police chief DSP Mohd Adli Mat Daud said road-users who witnessed the incident then alerted the police.
He said rescuers from the Hulu Terengganu Fire and Rescue station took more than three hours to extricate the victim.
A spokesperson from the station said the Kuala Berang fire station received a distress call at 4.18pm.
One fire engine and seven personnel were deployed to the scene.
Jeganathan's body was sent to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
