Wanita Umno's role important in moving party

ALOR STAR: Wanita Umno, the women's wing of the United Malays National Organisation has a significant role to play in ensuring that the party and Barisan Nasional (BN) continue to be the people's choice as state government in Kedah.
To this end, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah who is also Kedah Umno liaison chief expressed confidence that the wing's members were capable of doing their part in securing victory for Umno and BN in the 14th general election.
While extolling the ability of Wanita Umno, he also acknowledged two other wings of the party, Pemuda and Puteri which were no less important and complemented the durability of the women's wing as the backbone of Umno.
"In Kedah, Wanita Umno is forefront as the machinery to make sure Umno continues to govern the state in the next five years.
"Don't succumb to certain quarters that would only result in loss for the people in Kedah; so Wanita, Pemuda and Pemudi must work hand in hand in 'Jalinan Rakyat' which is Umno's most powerful instrument to empower the party," he said at the 'Ibu Terbaik Bangsa' award presentation here last night.
Ahmad Bashah presented the award to five Kedah Wanita Umno stalwarts respectively, as well as a posthumous special award to Datuk Wira Dr Maznah Hamid dubbed the 'Iron Lady' who passed away at National Heart Institute on Oct 4.
Maznah's daughter Datin Nur Sharmila Shaheen Mirza Habib received the award on her mother's behalf. — Bernama
