KUANTAN: A married woman, desperate to have a child, was nearly cheated of RM7,000 by a Facebook friend who promised to get her a child for adoption.
Pahang Commercial Criminal Investigation Department head Supt Wazir Mohd Yusof said the victim, aged 28, claimed that the suspect, by the name of Fazreen Ismail, contacted her and informed that she had a pair of newborn twins and wanted to give them up for adoption.
"The victim was told to pay RM7,000, but she could only afford RM500 as down payment and deposited the money into an account in a bank in Bera last Sunday," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
He said the victim became suspicious when she requested for a photograph of the babies and was given a picture of a baby taken from Google image.
The victim contacted the suspect who promised to meet the woman in Puchong, Selangor, but the suspect did not turn up and had given various excuses, he said.
Following which, he said, the victim lodged a report at the Bera police station yesterday. — Bernama
