KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court will hear on Jan 4 next year an application by Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd and two of its editors to strike out a suit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak and Umno executive secretary Datuk Ab Rauf Yusoh on a series of readers' posts published on the media company's website.
Counsel Nor Hazira Abu Haiyan, representing Najib and Ab Rauf, said Judge Datuk Wira Kamaludin Md Said set the date in chambers when the case came up for mention before him today.
Najib, who brought the suit in his personal capacity, and Ab Rauf had filed the libel suit against the three defendants over the readers' posts published on their website.
Najib and Umno sued Mkini Dotcom, Malaysiakini editor-in-chief Steven Gan and former chief editor Fathi Aris Omar over the compilation of readers' comments in two articles in the "Yoursay" column on May 14, 2014.
They claimed that the articles had tarnished their reputation and raised the perception that Umno was incompetent as a political organisation and the backbone of the Barisan Nasional. — Bernama
