Plumber jailed six years for throwing Molotov cocktail into garage

PETALING JAYA: A plumber was sentenced to six years jail by the sessions court here today for committing mischief by throwing a Molotov cocktail into a garage with the intention to destroy it, last week.
Judge Mohammed Mokhzani Mokhtar handed down the sentence on Leong Kwang On, 30, who pleaded guilty after the charge was read out to him in Mandarin.
Leong, who had a previous record for a drug-related case, was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of arrest, which was last Nov 20.
He was charged with committing the offence, which destroyed the garage, with an intention of destroying a house belonging to Cheah Chee Meng, 46, at Jalan USJ 6/6, Subang Jaya here, at 10.55pm last Nov 19.
The charge, under Section 436 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years, and is liable to fine, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor V. V. Suloshani handled the case, while Leong, who was unrepresented, said he was remorseful and had no intention of causing hurt on anyone.
"I did it after being prompted by friends and only intended to scare the victim," he said. — Bernama
