PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz wants more institutions here to organise fresh avant-garde events that would entice tourists and travellers to explore and experience the country.
The Tourism and Culture Minister said it was vital that corporations keep pace with technological innovation to attract the masses and stay relevant with the current trends, especially in a time where social media is empowering the world.
He said while Malaysia has long been renowned for its beaches and mountains, organisations should be more innovative and showcase events that are new and unique to tourists.
"As such, I hope more organisations will follow Mah Sing Group's footsteps and organise fresh avant-garde events like this," he said during the launch of the Arts and Lights event organised by Mah Sing, here, today.
Nazri's speech was read by Tourism Malaysia international promotion division (Asia/Africa) senior director Datuk Miss Yusof, as he was unable to attend.
Arts and Lights, which is Malaysia's first travelling pop-up art and technology experience, showcases 12 distinctive art and technology installations in Icon City here, and utilises social media as its main driving platform, encouraging visitors to share their snaps online.
"Undoubtedly, Arts and Lights' immersive installations allow people to appreciate art in a digital cultural age.
"It is my great hope that this event will shape and foster interest for cultural arts for the youths as well as parents as it highlights how tourist communicate with art in the digital age," Nazri said.
The event is open to the public every Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm to 9pm until Dec 24 with free admission.
The exhibition will then make its way to other locations in the Klang Valley, as well as Penang and Johor over the next eight months.
Visitors are advised to reserve their tickets at www.artsandlights.com.my.
Visitors also stand a chance to win an iPhone X following the launch of the contest today, which runs until Jan 14, with the most creative photo to be picked as the winner.
