IPOH: A DAP assemblyman was suspended from the Perak legislative assembly sitting for ignoring a directive of the speaker.
Howard Lee Chuan How (DAP-Pasir Pinji) (pix) was ordered out of the hall for not sitting down as ordered by Speaker Datuk S. Thangeswary and trying to interfere in the proceedings that led to a walkout by the opposition bloc.
Lee had proposed that Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib (BN-Slim) be referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee for allegedly using abusive words against him at the assembly sitting on Nov 24, and insisted that the Speaker make a decision on the motion.
Thangeswary dismissed the motion, saying the matter had to be referred to the Hansard first.
Several opposition assemblymen voiced their dissatisfaction at the decision while Lee ignored the Speaker's order to sit down.
Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid (BN-Kamunting) then proposed that Lee be suspended from the house for the duration of today's sitting, and he was seconded by Datuk Mohd Tarmizi Idris (BN-Kenering).
Thangeswary ordered the sergeant-at-arms to escort Lee out of the house which prompted the entire opposition block to stage a walkout. – Bernama
