KUALA LUMPUR: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) will launch a special manual on occupational safety and health for tahfiz schools nationwide in January 2018.
Niosh chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the handbook would provide exposure on the fundamental aspects of OSH, awareness programmes, and how to implement the safety and health measures.
"The handbook is easy to understand, so that it can be implemented in all tahfiz schools throughout the country," he said in a statement, here today.
Niosh would also be holding seminars nationwide to aid with the implementation.
The manual was also mentioned at the second Tahfiz School Special Task Force high level committee (HLC) meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Nov 24.
Lee said Ahmad Zahid, who is also the HLC chairman, is scheduled to launch the handbook in a special ceremony in Bagan Datuk, Perak.
Niosh was invited to participate in the HLC to raise awareness on health and safety aspects in tahfiz schools nationwide.
The special committee was set up following a fire incident which killed 21 students and two teachers of Pusat Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah in Kampung Datuk Keramat here, on Sept 14.
On Oct 30, Niosh held a seminar on OSH management for Selangor tahfiz schools in Bandar Baru Bangi, attended by 100 tahfiz school operators and administrators.
A special team from Niosh had visited a wide range of tahfiz schools including state state-run and private institutions to get a true picture of how they operate, and manage safety and health risks. — Bernama
