KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry seized RM2.3 million worth of Gozout products in Kelantan and Terengganu.
Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today said the National Pharmacy Regulatory Agency (NPRA) had confirmed that the products were not registered with the Drug Control Authority (DCA) as they contained 100% active ingredients.
"The ministry's Pharmacy Enforcement Division also received information on advertising and selling of Gozout products that make various medical and health claims to mislead the public," he said.
He advised the public to be more cautious and not easily taken in by the advertisement of unregistered health products with extreme and unsubstantiated medical claims such as Gozout products, that among others, were advertised online for illnesses related to diabetes, gout and high blood pressure.
"Owners and distributors of health products need to refer to NPRA to ensure that products sold in the market comply with the requirements of the laws," he said.
Noor Hisham said the sale of unregistered health products was in violation of Regulation 7 (1) (a), of the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984 and Regulation 30 (1) of the same Regulation and punishable under Section 12 (1) of the Drug Sale Act 1952. — Bernama
