Floods worsen in Kelantan, over 8,000 moved to relief centres

KOTA BARU: The floods in Kelantan have continued to worsen, sending more people out of their homes to relief centres.
As at 1pm today, the number of evacuees reached 8,574, up from 6,961 at 8 am, according to the "infobanjir" application of the Social Welfare Department.
All the evacuees are being housed at 96 relief centres in nine districts, namely Kota Baru, Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Bachok, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Machang and Jeli.
Pasir Mas had the highest number of evacuees, 4,370 from 1,694 families, accommodated at 38 centres. Kota Baru was next with 1,445 evacuees from 362 families at 13 centres.
In Tanah Merah, 857 people from 244 families were at 21 centres and in Pasir Puteh, 799 people from 238 families at eight centres.
Bachok had 313 people from 75 families at two centres and Machang, 296 people from 92 families at five centres.
Kuala Krai had 280 people from 73 families at seven centres, Jeli had 175 people from 46 families at one centre and Tumpat had 39 people from eight families at one centre.
The infobanjir.water.gov.my portal of the Drainage and Irrigation Department reported that the level of Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, had risen to 10.61m at noon, up from 10.56m at 8am. The danger point is 9m.
The ebanjir.kelantan.gov.my portal of Kelantan reported that all roads were passable to traffic.
