Forex RCI - No motion, no debate: Speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: A debate in Dewan Rakyat on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report regarding the forex losses in the 90s could not be held as there was no motion being tabled for it.
Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said he had not received any motions from parliamentarians for the report to be debated.
"Every debate will start with a motion. There is no motion from the opposition and there is no motion from the government. So, how is it going to be debated?" he said.
"There is no motion. How can it be decided if there is no motion," he told reporters when met at the Parliament.
Lawmakers today were given the 524 pages RCI report on the losses suffered by Bank Negara Malaysia due to forex trading in the 1990s.
The report had held liable former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former finance minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, among others, for the losses.
In an immediate press conference, Pakatan Harapan later claimed that the RCI report on the forex losses in the 1990s was "politically motivated".

PH president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had questioned the timing of the report tabulation as it has recommended a probe into Mahathir and Anwar, both currently the PH chairman and de facto leader respectively.
