2 dead, 7 injured in Muadzam Shah road accident

    ROMPIN: Two people died while seven were injured in a three-vehicle collision at KM102.8, Jalan Kuantan-Segamat, Muadzam Shah here yesterday.
    In the incident at 5pm, the driver of a Perodua Alza, Jamaludin Basri, 56, from Taman Mewah, Simpang Renggam Johor and his daughter Hanis Syahirah, 19, who was in the backseat at the right side of the car, lost their lives.
    Rompin District Police chief DSP Azli Mohd Noor said three others, Jamaludin's wife, Rozita Manan, 50, who was seated in front and another two of their daughters, Hanis Nazira, 17, and Hanis Humaira, 12, sustained injuries to the face and head.
    He said the driver of a Proton Exora, Yusoff Mat Mohidin, 35, his wife, Farizan Subian, 35, and their two children, Nur Farisya, 6, and Muhammad Fariz Izuan, 9, were also injured.
    "However, their one-year-old son Muhammad Zaquwan, and the driver of a chemical trailer truck escaped unharmed," he said when contacted here today.

    According to him, the accident was believed to have happened when Mohd Fadzil Mohd Jailan, 46, who was driving the unloaded trailer truck from Kuantan to Segamat, failed to avoid a vehicle (unidentified) on the opposite lane which had turned to the junction (to Petronas) without warning.
    "The truck skidded and veered into the opposite lane, hit the Proton Exora which was in the lane at the junction entering Petronas and crashed into the Perodua Alza which was heading to Kuantan.
    "The truck overturned to the right and landed on part of the Perodua Alza," he said.
    Azli said the Proton Exora carrying five family members from Taman Sri Bertam, Melaka rotated and landed back on the lane to Kuantan.
    The bodies and injured victims were sent to Muadzam Shah Hospital, he added. — Bernama
