Industrial Revolution 4.0 to see more women employees

KUALA LUMPUR: The Industrial Revolution 4.0 will likely see more women being employed, as the future competition in the workforce will be more on brains, rather than brawn.
Minister in the Singapore Prime Minister's Office Josephine Teo Li Min said this was evident with the current pace of technology where most of the manual works that required physical energy today were slowly being automated.
"If we are competing on brains and not with brawn, women are not at any disadvantage at all," she said when participating in the plenary session of the Women in Politics Kuala Lumpur 2017 (WIPKL) international conference here, today.
WIPKL is being organised in conjunction with the Dec 5-9 UMNO General Assembly.
Noting that the advancement of artificial intelligence and robotic would increase the pace of workplace automation, Teo believed that the outlook for jobs, however, was not all gloomy.
She said the concern about massive job losses in the future might be overestimated as a recent study by the Centre for European Economic Research suggested that the number of jobs at risk to automation could be as low as only nine percent.
"Historically, when we looked back at what technology has brought to the world of job, technology driven-job replacement has also been accompanied by job creation in other important new sectors.
"The problem is whether you can find people and give them the right skills to take advantage of the jobs, and many other jobs that are created," she added. — Bernama
