KUALA NERUS: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (pix) said today it would not be an easy passage as anticipated for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to become the prime minister if the opposition Pakatan Harapan won the next general election.
He said Dr Mahathir would have to first prove his capability by winning a state seat before contesting in a parliamentary constituency.
Shahidan was asked for his comment on a Pakatan Harapan proposal to appoint Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Dr Mahathir and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah as interim priime minister and deputy prime minister, respectively, if the opposition pact wins the 14th General Election.
He was approached by reporters after a visit to a flood relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kompleks Gong Badak.
Shahidan also advised the people not to get influenced by the opposition pact, but to continue to support the Barisan Nasional which he said fulfilled its promises to them sincerely. — Bernama
