Datuk charged with cheating over purchase of luxury car

KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman with a 'Datuk' title was charged at the magistrate's court here today with cheating a man over the purchase of a BMW luxury car last June.
Datuk C. Anand Raja, 43, however, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som.
According to the charge sheet, Anand Raja was accused of cheating Perry Yip Khing Seng, 44, by duping him into believing that he wanted to purchase his (Yip's) white BMW 528i car with a deposit payment of RM36,232.
However, Yip claimed he never received the deposit money from the accused after he handed over the car.
Anand Raja was alleged to have committed the offence at a house in Laman Damaisari, Jalan 1/61 Off Mont Kiara, Bukit Segambut, here at 11am on June 14.
He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, with whipping or a fine, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Noor Farah Adilah Nordin prosecuted, while the businessman was not represented. Jan 8 was set for remention. — Bernama
