KUALA LUMPUR: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today announced that Tan Cheng Hoe has been appointed as the new head coach of the national football squad, the Harimau Malaya.
FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin congratulated Cheng Hoe via a posting in the FAM official Facebook tonight.
"We wish to congratulate Tan Cheng Hoe on his appointment as the new head coach of the Harimau Malaya squad," he was quoted as saying in the posting.
Prior to this, Cheng Hoe was the assistant coach of the Harimau Malaya squad.
The appointment was to fill the vacancy left by Nelo Vingada who resigned as head coach of the Harimau Malaya squad effective yesterday.
Other than Vingada, his two assistants, Joao Arnaldo Correia De Carvalho and Francisco Jose Bruto Da Costa, also stepped down from their respective posts as assistant coach and fitness coach.
Cheng Hoe has wide experience with the Harimau Malaya squad and was assistant coach to Datuk Rajagobal when they won the 2010 Suzuki AFF Cup.
Before becoming the assistant coach of Harimau Malaya, Cheng Hoe was coach of the Kedah team who brought back the glory to the northern state in the Malaysian League.
Cheng Hoe became Kedah head coach in 2014 and led the Red Hawks to the Malaysia Cup in 2016. — Bernama
