KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos who was arrested on Saturday for intimidating and threatening to "hunt down" former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim was remanded for two days from yesterday.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Shaharuddin Abdullah confirmed today that Jamal would remain in police custody for two days and is being investigated for intentionally insulting a person which can disrupt public peace under Section 504 of the Penal Code and for insulting behaviour under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.
Jamal was handcuffed and led away by police at about 9.30pm on Saturday when he attended the Umno general assembly at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
On Friday, armed with a sledgehammer, Jamal brought a cutout poster of Zaid and warned that he would personally hunt down Zaid if the authorities did not take action against him for allegedly insulting the Selangor Sultan.
He allegedly also said that he knew where Zaid lives and that the "hammer would meet his head" if the authorities failed to act against him.
In a Twitter post on Monday, Zaid said the Selangor ruler should be careful with his words as no one would be left out if the country "burns".
"When some Rulers play politics; they must know the consequences. Don't think there is no price for partisanship," Zaid tweeted.
The post came after Sultan Sharafuddin had, in an interview with an English daily, said that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was an "angry man" and would "burn the whole country with his anger".
The Sultan had warned politicians that the deliberate use of sensitive issues to fish for votes in the general election would destroy the country.
