JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) will organise the Pineapple Fiesta 60 at Pusat Perdagangan Bandar Baru Pontian, near Pontian, from Thursday (Dec 14) to Sunday (Dec 17).
LPNM chairman Datuk Samsolbari Jamali said the four-day fiesta, scheduled to be launched by Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, was expected to attract about 30,000 visitors.
"The inaugural fiesta is the highlight of LPNM's 60th anniversary of leading the country's pineapple industry as well as celebrating the efforts of all pineapple industry players including operators, manufacturers, entrepreneurs and all those involved in developing this industry," he said here today.
Samsolbari said the festival would also offer various activities such as seminars, the launching of e-pineapple system, concerts and also competitions such as fishing and colouring.
He said LPNM had targeted a total export value of RM320 million by 2020 following the successful export of pineapples to China beginning October that saw 150 metric tonnes of the fruit being imported by that country within the two months.
Currently, the biggest export is to Singapore with 33,529 metric tonnes per year, he said. — Bernama
