Kumar, Phoon Eyin crowned N. Sembilan sportsman, sportswoman 2017

SEREMBAN: National hockey goalkeeper S. Kumar and 2013 and 2017 World Wushu champion Phoon Eyin were crowned Negri Sembilan Sportsman and Sportswoman 2017 at the state's Sports Appreciation Ceremony 2017 here today.
Kumar and Phoon Eyin were rewarded RM10,000 and a trophy each.
The prizes were presented by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Kumar, 38, from Tampin, had also won the 2017 national best goalkeeper award.
He will also be representing Malaysia at the 2018 World Cup. He helped Malaysia to win the gold at the 2017 SEA Games, to be runners-up at the 2017 Asian Hockey Championship in Bangladesh and achieving fifth place at this year's Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament.
Meanwhile, Phoon Eyin's best achievement was winning two silver medals at the 2017 SEA Games, a gold medal at the 2017 World Wushu World Championships in Russia and a gold medal at the 2017 Hong Kong International Wushu Championship.
The athlete from Seremban has been involved in wushu sports since 2008.
A total of nine athletes were nominated for the sportsman's category and four were listed for the sportswoman category. — Bernama
