Malaysia's IPI up 3.4% in October

    PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's industrial production index (IPI) moderated to 3.4% year-on-year growth in October 2017, supported by positive growth in manufacturing, mining and electricity segments.
    IPI grew 4.7% in September.
    The Department of Statistics said the manufacturing sector output expanded moderately by 4.2% in October 2017 after recording 5.7% growth in September.
    "The major sub-sectors which contributed to the increase in October 2017 were electrical and electronic products (5.9%), petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (2.1%) and food, beverages and tobacco products (7.0%)."
    The mining sector output increased 0.8% in October 2017, lower than the 2.1% growth in September, underpinned by the natural gas index (+1.4%) and crude oil index (+0.3%).
    Meanwhile, the electricity sector output rose 4.6% in October 2017.
