Elderly paralysed woman dies of smoke inhalation after fire razes house

YAN: An elderly woman who was paralysed died of smoke inhalation after a blaze destroyed her house in Kampung Singkir Laut here at about 11.40am.
Yan Fire and Rescue Station chief Fauzi Shuaib said in the incident, the paralysed victim, Fauziah Abdullah, 69, was alone in the house after her husband went to a shop nearby.
"The station received a call at 11.40am and the first fire engine arrived at the location about 12 minutes later and by then the house was already 90% razed.
"The victim was rescued by villagers who saw smoke coming out of the house but she was pronounced dead on the way to Yan Hospital," he said in a statement today.
According to him, firemen from Yan and Guar Chempedak stations assisted by 19 fire-fighting volunteers put the flame out at 12.49pm. — Bernama
