KAJANG: Four assailants armed with an axe and a machete robbed a staff member of a money changer and his colleague of RM150,250 in foreign currency, along the KL-Seremban Highway on Monday.
Kajang district police chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Yusoff said in the 6pm incident, the victim and his colleague, in their 20's, left the money changer shop they worked at in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, with the cash.
"The money changer then rode his motorcycle with his colleague to a shopping mall in Bandar Baru Bangi. They were suddenly approached by two men armed with an axe and a machete.
"The duo tried to switch off the victim's motorcycle but they failed and they kicked him off his machine," he said in a statement today.
Ahmad Dzaffir said the victim fell, and two more assailants approached and snatched his sling bag with the foreign currency.
"The victim's clothes were ripped and he suffered minor injuries in the incident," he added.
The case has been classified as armed gang robbery.
"We are in the midst of tracing the suspects who we believe are locals," said Ahmad Dzaffir.
